JEFF BAKER BIO

When I first picked up the guitar at age 11, it felt very familiar, like it belonged there.  The guitar, and music in general made sense to me from the beginning.  Even though I had to "pay my dues" building up calluses on my fingers and training them to do what I wanted, I had found a home.
My first band at age 13 was called "The Duanes" (I was a big Duane Eddy fan at the time).  My next band was "The Galaxies", and with them, I made my first album when I was 17.  The album was titled "Wailin' Boogie"
(listen & download for free, click on Music tab above).  We started playing a lot of gigs, school dances, bars, etc.  The high point for the The Galaxies was opening for the Isley Brothers at the Capital Theater in my home town of Port Chester, NY (this was when The Capital Theater, now a big concert hall, was just a plain old movie theater).  The concert was called "Boss Night" and was pretty "big time" for a 17 year old in 1963.
Through the years, I've played in numerous bands, done solo work and played many, many shows.  I've had so many great experiences as well as encountering just about every pitfall you can find in the world of music.  I've played large venues like the Anaheim Convention Center for 10,000 people, well known clubs like the Electric Circus and Whiskey A Go Go as well as countless other venues, clubs, bars, etc. etc. etc.  I've been on the same bill as Rod Stewart, Tina Turner and played with some of the best musicians on the planet you've never heard of.  I've recorded for large record companies like Mercury Records and now have my own independent record label.
That's all well and good, but I must say, my current album, "When Bad Is Really Bad" is my best work by far.  I've always seen what a profound effect music has on people.  I've stirred people up to a frenzy as well as touched people's hearts with my music.  I know that people listen to music to be effected by it in some way and the artists they like, effect them in ways they enjoy.  It became a deep desire for me to use music to bring pleasure and, to some degree, make things better for the people listening.  That's the driving creative force behind "When Bad Is Really Bad".  I hope you enjoy it.
